NOW HEAR THIS's Students, Writers and Teachers (S.W.A.T.) Program sends authors into schools to conduct writing workshops with students. These workshops help develop literacy skills, cultivate talent and creativity, encourage self-expression and foster analytical and critical thought. Writers and teachers develop writing exercises together that complement course curricula and engage students in material they might otherwise find difficult and alienating.
S.tudents can expect to see a noticeable improvement in their writing, and many even enjoy improved grades in their other classes.
W.riters enjoy a connection with younger generations and are able to promote the fun, creative side of writing and reading within an educational context.
A.nd
T.eachers are exposed to new teaching methods and enjoy a weekly break from their classroom duties. Also, there's a chance they'll get to work with one of their favourite Canadian authors!
Partnered with the Toronto Catholic District School Board, S.W.A.T. offers on-going workshops in classrooms around Toronto.
