|

Now that February has finally arrived, the NOW HEAR THIS! office is buzzing with the excitement of another year of our Students, Writers and Teachers (S.W.A.T.) Creative Residencies Project! The fourth year of S.W.A.T. is set to begin THIS MONTH, and we're getting really pumped for an awesome semester!

We are pleased to be pairing up with the Toronto Catholic District School Board for a fourth year of placing talented writers in schools all across Toronto. Keep an eye on the blog in the next few weeks for an announcement of the participating writers and schools for S.W.A.T. 2010!

For some of the basics on how S.W.A.T. works, keep reading after the jump!

WHO ARE WE?
… Students, Writers And Teachers (S.W.A.T.) is a result of the collaboration between the Descant Arts & Letters Foundation’s NOW HEAR THIS! outreach program and the Toronto Catholic District School Board

WHAT IS S.W.A.T.?
… S.W.A.T. is an in-school program partnering educators and professional authors to work with students on writing, self-expression and critical thinking.

WHERE DOES S.W.A.T. TAKE PLACE?
… A 10-week residency places a writer in a TCDSB classroom once a week for three full periods. This year, S.W.A.T. will take place in 12 TCDSB high schools, and each writer-in-residence will be working with one teacher in each school.

WHEN DOES S.W.A.T. TAKE PLACE?
… Prior to the start of the program, writers-in-residence and teachers will agree on a regular day (or days) of the week for classroom visits.

In 2010, S.W.A.T. runs for 10 in-class weeks from February 22 – May 7 with a one-week break from March 15-19.
