Commencing The Capybara!

Now that The Barracuda has made its illustrious debut, we at NOW HEAR THIS! are looking forward to bringing another exotic critter, The Capybara, into the wonderful world of literary anthologies in the spring of 2011.  We know that a year may seem like a long time, but we’re already busy reading through submissions from students in the 2010 S.W.A.T. program and will soon go about selecting the best pieces for publication in The Capybara anthology.

We realize that you may be wondering: What exactly is a capybara, anyway? Find out after the jump...

Known as “masters of the grasses,” capybaras are the largest living species of rodent in the world and make their home in the wilds of South America. Unlike their more fearsome alphabetical cousin, the barracuda, capybaras are gentle, social creatures who live together in groups and know the meaning of community — so what better animal to represent the vibrant community of writers that make up the S.W.A.T. program? True, they may not exactly be at the top of the food chain, but they’ve got lots of spirit (and their rapid breeding rates apparently keep them from going extinct). They sound pretty awesome in our book, and we’re confident that their namesake anthology will be a brilliant addition to the great writing we’ve already seen from our past student writers!
